Rocklin Multimodal

The Placer County Transportation Planning Agency and City of Rocklin obtained state funding to develop a new rail/multimodal station on the historic site of the Rocklin Depot, across the street from the site of the former freight terminal and roundhouse.

The station will provide access between train, bus, vanpool and carpool services, auto parking, bikeway, and pedestrian facilities for travel to Sacramento, the San Francisco Bay Area, Lake Tahoe, and Reno.

Mogavero Notestine Associates provided design and master planning for all station facilities, including depot and platform structures, and site improvements including frontage improvements, the parking lot, and facilitation of bus access to the site.

The design ensures that the new station, structure and site improvements, which incorporate references to Rocklin's historic past as a rail transportation center, will reinforce and help define the City's town center.

The station structure provides architectural links to Rocklin's historic passenger depot, while platform shelters include design elements that reflect the rigging of the communities historic stone quarry.

Just as important, the design is sensitive to ecological considerations: all site drainage is facilitated by above ground landscaping that includes detention and purification landscape areas, buildings and shelters utilize natural heating and cooling systems, and incorporate natural, low-energy building materials like granite quarried from an adjoining site.

Our work includes a community workshop which will focus on gaining insights from citizens and merchants about how the new station can integrate with community needs.
