This project involved the renovation of a 70-year-old, 10,700 square foot mortuary building on the City of Sacramento Historic Preservation List. The building now has two stories of interior office space.
Creative design solutions were required to provide seismic safety in the historic building with tight budget constraints.
These solutions included:
- The utilization of the historic building code;
- Steel bracing within existing wall cavities;
- A new steel frame incorporated into the new stairway;
- Close coordination with the building departments;
- On-site sheer testing of the existing masonry.
